Primary Foreign Languages: French
Practical Workshop: Traditional Tales and Fairy-tales Workshop: French
Content:
Teaching a foreign language forms part of the statutory Key Stage Two National Curriculum, and the KS2 Languages Programme of Study states that pupils should be able to:
- understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
- speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity
- discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied
- read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing
Using traditional tales and fairy-tales as part of primary languages teaching can provide excellent cultural enrichment. In this workshop, we will demonstrate and model how to introduce children to these authentic sources, making them accessible to the children. We will show how to create opportunities for the children to engage with traditional tales and fairy-tales in a variety of ways, building skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar for a variety of age-groups.
Target Audience:
This workshop is ideal for anyone involved in teaching foreign languages, including class teachers and teaching assistants, subject leaders and visiting specialists.
All levels of language skills will be catered for in this session; delegates will be fully supported with opportunities to practice the language and try out a range of activities using carefully selected activities. They will leave the session with the knowledge, skills and confidence to meet the Key Stage 2 requirements and inspire their pupils.
Trainers:
